The 100 best local dishes served in Georgia restaurants include 11 from Middle Georgia.
The tourism division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development sought out nominations last fall for the best local dishes for the 2016 list of “100 Plates Locals Love.” The recommendations were to include those can’t-miss dishes recommended to family, friends and visitors.
Nearly 600 “plates” were nominated via www.ExploreGeorgia.org, and the list was evaluated by a panel of judges who selected the top 100 favorite dishes from across the state, according to a news release.
The “100 Plates Locals Love” and the restaurants where they are served include the following in the midstate:
▪ Chili dogs, Nu-Way Weiners, Macon.
▪ Barbecue plate, Fincher’s Bar-B-Q, Macon.
▪ Sloppy bread sticks, Ingleside Village Pizza, Macon.
▪ Walden greenback burger, Rookery, Macon.
▪ Creamy tomato soup, The Brick, Milledgeville.
▪ Pecan pie bread pudding, The Perfect Pear, Perry.
▪ Brisket, Martin’s BBQ, Warner Robins.
▪ Delta chicken, Company Supply, Dublin.
▪ Stuffed shrimp, Deano’s Italian, Dublin.
▪ Pulled pork nachos, Holy Smokes BBQ, Dublin.
▪ Stuffed seafood pizza, Peter’s Place, Dublin.
Jennifer Hill Booker, Georgia Grown executive chef, cookbook author and culinary educator, selected the chili dogs at Nu-Way in Macon as one of her top 10 from the list of 100 favorite dishes.
The top plates list is part of the Georgia Eats guide available at the state’s 12 visitor information centers and at the Explore Georgia website. The state’s economic development office not only helps drive the expansion of new industry and small business, but it also helps promote the state as a top destination for tourists
