(MACON, GA) - The Bibb County School District's robotics team, Team RoboBibb, will host a press conference on Thursday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at the Macon-Bibb Convention and Visitors Bureau, 450 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Macon(3rd Floor Conference Room). During the press conference, the team will discuss the important awards it won last weekend at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Peachtree Regional Competition and the team's upcoming trip to a national-level competition, the 2014 FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis, Mo. The media are invited to attend. Lunch will be served afterward.
Team RoboBobb, which is comprised of students from Central, Howard, Hutchings Career Center, Northeast, Rutland and Westside, competed in the FIRST Robotics Peachtree Regional Competition on March 27-29. Sixty-four high school teams from the Southeast and as far as Mexico competed in the event held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Team RoboBibb won the following awards at the 2014 FIRST Robotics Peachtree Regional Competition:
- Highest Seeded Rookie Team Award: This is awarded to a rookie team that has accumulated the most points throughout the entire competition.
- Rookie All-Star Award: This is awarded to the team that exemplifies a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST to inspire students to learn more about science and technology. This is the award that qualified Team RoboBibb for the 2014 FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis. The competition will be held April 23-26.
