The Macon-Bibb County Convention & Visitors Bureau will celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week May 1st – 7th. NTTW celebrates the travel and hospitality industry and the huge impact travel and tourism has on citizens, businesses and national, state, and local economies.
In 2014, Macon-Bibb County tourism:
-Created 3,309 jobs
-Produced $78.97 million in payroll
-$328.37 million in direct tourism spending
-Created $12.96 million in state tax revenue
-Generated $8.94 million in local tax revenue
-Ranked 10th of 159 Georgia counties for 2010 tourism expenditures levels
-Each Bibb County household received $312 in tax relief as a result of tourism efforts. (Source: U.S. Travel Association)
“Across our community, travel employs a prosperous and diverse workforce, from hotel employees, to restaurant, attraction and retail workers, and related sectors such as construction, manufacturing and finance. Travel supports one in nine American jobs, including over 3,000 jobs right here in Macon-Bibb County,” said Monica Smith, President & CEO of MBCCVB. “This week, we are celebrating what travel means to our community.”
On Wednesday, May 4th, the MBCCVB will celebrate NTTW with free Van Tours of Macon starting at 11 a.m. and running every 30 minutes with the last tour at 1 p.m. No reservations are needed. We will also have Kona Ice at the Downtown Visitors Center offering free shaved ice treats from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. “Macon on My Mind Day” will be Friday, May 6th at the I-75 Visitors Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. MBCCVB partners will get a chance to promote their business to visitors at the I-75 VIC.
