Macon, GA- The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) will host its 2012 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships at the Macon Centreplex, Friday, January 13th & Saturday, January 14th. The event will begin Friday morning at 8am and conclude Saturday evening with an awards ceremony.

Gary Phillips, Assistant Director of the Georgia High School Association, stated, "this particular GHSA event provides a unique opportunity to see one of the only state high school wrestling championship events in the entire nation, held simultaneously in the same building. Only one other state holds a similar statewide wrestling event."

The first GHSA Dual Meet Wrestling Championships were held in Macon in 2004. This year's tournament is a double elimination event. A total of 56 GHSA high schools are expected to participate with as many as 1,300 individual wrestlers competing with others from across the state. Tickets are $10 for a one-day pass or $17 for a two-day pass.

The objective of the GHSA organization is to promote education in Georgia from a mental, physical, and moral viewpoint, and to standardize and encourage participation in athletics. GHSA encourages sportsmanship and an appreciation for and study of music, speech, and other fine arts through Region and State competitions. For more information, please visit http://www.ghsa.net/.
