MACON, Ga. -- A new club hockey tournament honoring veterans is coming to Macon.
The Macon Veterans Cup comes thanks to the Macon Mayhem in partnership with Visit Macon, Spectra, and the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (SECHC).
The inaugural tournament is happening on November 12 and 13. Club hockey teams from Auburn University, Florida State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Georgia will play.
When the tournament kicks off on November 12, Georgia Tech will take on Auburn as UGA competes against FSU. On Saturday, Auburn will match up against FSU while Georgia Tech and Georgia will compete.
“All of the troubles in the world right now definitely serve as a solemn reminder of how blessed we are to have people willing to sacrifice so much so that we may enjoy our many freedoms,” said Mayhem President Blair Floyd. “With it being Veteran’s Day Weekend, we wanted to appreciate those who have served and couldn’t think of a better way than hosting the Macon Veterans Cup and our annual Military Appreciation Weekend in a fantastic weekend of hockey.”
If there's a tie by the end of the tournament, the winning team will be picked through tiebreakers like head-to-head or goals against.
The tournament will go by the rules of the Collegiate Hockey Foundation and be supervised by the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference.
