MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park ranks number one in best archaeological site for USA Today.
It was a USA Today Reader’s Choice contest.
A panel of experts picked the initial 20 nominees and the readers votes picked the top 10.
Park Superintendent Jim David said he appreciates the community’s support.
“It just shows the recognition that we are beginning to get at this site. It also shows we have an awful strong local support organization who took the effort of going and voting. There were some big names on the list,” said David.
Congress is working on legislation that would expand the monument more than 2800 acres.
