TGIF! Thank goodness it's almost Friday! Here in Macon, tomorrow is extra special because it's First Friday! This monthly tradition offers something fun for everyone and is sure to get your weekend off to a great start. Here are a few First Friday (and even First Saturday) events to kick off your weekend!
Summer is here! Do you dream of the beach but lack the time or money to get there? Then come on down to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame this First Friday from 6 to 8pm. Take some time to unwind by playing beach volleyball, entering the limbo contest and then cooling off in the fountain. Admission is free and this is guaranteed to be summer fun for all ages!
If you crave a little culture, stroll through any of the downtown galleries that will be open to showcase their exhibits. You might even meet an artist and get the chance to chat with them about the inspiration for their latest piece. The 567 Center for Renewal on Cherry Street will host "Off the Wall" which is an innovative 3D exhibit sure to be visually and intellectually appealing. With free refreshments offered, you can feast your eyes as well as your taste buds.
While there is almost always live music to be found in downtown Macon, it's not every Friday night that Art Alexakis of the band Everclear comes to town for a solo tour. You may recall the hits "Wonderful", "Father of Mine" and "I Will Buy You a New Life." With tickets starting at $15, don't miss this opportunity to enjoy live music at The Cox Capitol Theatre and experience nostalgia for that 90s alternative sound many of us grew up with.
Don't party too late or you may miss First Saturday Village Market. Spend a leisurely Saturday browsing through handmade crafts and locally grown produce. You will feel like you made the trek to the perfect off-the-beaten path flea market-all without leaving Macon. Come down to Mercer Village at 1624 Coleman Ave. from 9am-3pm and shop.
