Growing up, I remember the feeling of pure joy as my parents drove through countless neighborhoods, showing me the Christmas lights. I would beg them, “Just one more neighborhood, please!” So, when I heard about the Main Street Light Show Extravaganza in Downtown Macon I had to see it. I owed it to my inner 5-year-old self. Walking through the Poplar Street median and seeing thousands of lights move in time with Christmas music brought back those happy memories of seeing Christmas lights for the first time.

Bringing that type of joy to people of all ages was one reason Bryan Nichols, the man behind the show, worked so tirelessly to bring it to life. “It’s very humbling to watch the people, watch the smiles, watch the dancing, and see the community interact in a way that I’ve never seen before.” said Nichols.

Highlighting Macon and talented members of the community was another inspiration for Nichols. Naturally, when he thought about the music for the show, Macon Pops came to mind. “When I thought about this project, I really wanted Macon’s talent to be showcased even through the music,” said Nichols. The music was composed and recorded by some of Macon’s finest musicians and performers including Steve Moretti and Matt Catingub, co-owners of the Macon Pops.

The Light Show has quickly become one of the highlights of Macon’s holiday season. Both locals and visitors have gathered together night after night to witness a truly magical experience. Whether it’s a child seeing Christmas lights for the first time or an adult in need of a little Christmas spirit, there is no shortage of holiday cheer under the glow of the Main Street Light Show Extravaganza.

The lights are on every night November 30 until January 4 from 6 - 11 p.m. with shows at 6, 7, 8, and 9 p.m. The show is free and open to the public. Be sure to use #MaconMerry and #MainStLights for all your holiday photos.
