The event is open to everyone and we are encouraging the general public to come out and participate in the event. Participants will help us collect data and identify the different species of dragonflies on the park grounds. Dragonflies are one of the most beautiful elements of the natural world and are ecologically important pollinators, consumers, and food sources for other animals. On August 31st from 9:00am-3:00pm participants will conduct a day of field observations counting dragonflies along the trails at Ocmulgee. Participants will be given a free Dragonfly BioBlitz t-shirt and a water bottle while supplies last. The park will provide cameras, binoculars, and field guides to borrow while in stock. Participants are encouraged to bring their own cameras, binoculars, and field guides if possible, as well as appropriate clothing, which is required of all participants: closed-toed shoes, sun protection, water, and snacks. A children’s craft program will be available from 10am-3pm and includes painting a wooden dragonfly to take home as a souvenir of the event.
