Truman (Spain-Argentina, comedy-drama, 108 minutes, unrated)
Tomas (Javier Camara of “Talk to Her”) flies from Canada to visit his lifelong friend Julian (Ricardo Darin of “The Secret in Their Eyes”). A womanizing actor in Madrid, Julian is dying of cancer, on his own terms. Though he didn’t invite Tomas to see him, he accepts his old friend’s help as he tries to put his last days in order. That includes making amends to people he’s harmed, and finding a home for his beloved dog, Truman. “Cesc Gay's wise, wistful and well-observed film about two friends enjoying a final reunion in the shadow of impending death, is by turns amusing and affecting — and quite often both at once — as it focuses on a middle-aged actor’s efforts to put his affairs in order before he faces the final curtain. Darin gives a slyly robust performance as Julian, vividly conveying the profoundly mixed emotions of a man who, after a lifetime of excess and misbehavior, has only recently begun to feel unfamiliar pangs of regret.” - Variety
