Civil War Theme

Macon-Bibb County CVB, 450 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Macon, GA 31201

Macon survived the Civil War unscathed to flourish. This era is preserved and evident in several attractions including the Cannonball House and Confederate Museum, the Sidney Lanier Cottage, Rose Hill Cemetery and downtown architecture and monuments. See all that's left after Sherman torched Clinton, once a bustling town, which never recovered. Witness a real Civil War re-enactment with the sounds of Confederate battle cries, the smell of black powder muskets and the mighty roar of artillery during Old Clinton War days held the first weekend in May annually. Macon's 1800 Club of old south dancers is a lovely entertainment to complement this theme. Then travel on to Georgia's antebellum capital, Milledgeville, and see its delightful architecture including the old state Capitol building and the Old Governor's mansion before returning to Macon.
