Day 1

Arrive at Downtown Visitor Center

You can tour this state-of-the-art Visitors Center, view colorful exhibits and informative timeline, shop for gifts in the souvenir shop and watch the exciting 12-minute video for a perfect introduction to the Soul found only in Macon. Gather all of the information you will need to make your visit to Macon memorable (Give 30 minutes).

Ocmulgee National Monument

Admission is free and you can journey to the ancient past to discover 17,000 years of Native American Indian heritage just across the river.  Experience the continent's only reconstructed earth lodge, scale a great temple mound, or venture over Civil War battlefields. Ranger-led guided tours available upon request (Give 1-2 hours).


Georgia Sports Hall of Fame        

Shoot baskets and kick field goals at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. See how Georgia geography, mathematics, science, and history relate to sports on themed computer programs. Watch historic Georgia sports highlights featuring Dominique Wilkins, Herschel Walker, Bobby Jones, and many more sports legends on a huge screen in an indoor stadium! Specially designed scavenger hunts make this attraction an especially fun, educational experience for students (Give 1 hour).

Lunch at Parish on Cherry St.

Sit outdoors and experience the smell of Cajun cuisine wafting through the air. The plethora of menu options provide something for everyone to enjoy as you relax in the heart of downtown Macon.

Amerson River Park

This park has something to offer everyone. Whether you are looking for river access to kayak, bike trails to explore, or a handicap accessible playground for your family to enjoy, Amerson River Park has what you’re looking for. Perched along the Ocmulgee River, there are sights and views from nearly every vantage point (Give 1-2 hours).

Tattnall Square Park

This sixteen acre park is listed as one of the nation’s oldest parks. Rotating art exhibits mingle with trees and blooms to create a space for all. You can sit and enjoy the atmosphere as you listen to the water coming out of the focal point fountain, run along the perimeter trail or bring your tennis racquet for a game. On Wednesday afternoons, the Mulberry Market lines the sidewalk as local vendors sell food and artisan goods each week (Give 1-2 hours).

Dinner at The Rookery

The Rookery is one of Macon’s most noticeable eateries and the home of the Allman Burger, the Big “O,” and the Gram Parson’s Cosmic Club. Sit at the bar and experience Eddie Hinton’s Extremely Dangerous Cocktail during happy hour. - 543 Cherry St.

Breakfast at Taste & See Coffee Shop & Gallery

Start your morning off right with breakfast at Taste and See. This unique coffee shop offers a wide array of caffeinated options to get you ready for the day. The scent of Counter Culture Coffee mingles throughout the gallery. Sit by the stone fireplace and enjoy one of their delicious breakfast items.

Sandy Beach Water Park at Lake Tobo

Sandy Beach has something to offer everyone. Nestled on the shores of Macon's Lake Tobesofkee, in the heart of Central Georgia, this spot is a true treasure. You can escape reality and enter into an island paradise where you're sure to create lasting memories. Water rides and sunshine create the perfect opportunity to enjoy the day.
