Macon, GA- The University Center at Mercer U. is becoming one of the most popular sporting forums for college athletes around the country. With its sleek courts, dynamic lighting and bright orange seats, it becomes the perfect backdrop for competitive intercollegiate basketball action. Beginning this Thursday, the University Center will morph into a wrestling haven with 423 wrestlers of 96 wrestling teams competing for champion titles at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Championships on March 10 -12, 2011.

During the three-day tournament, 373 men and 48 women wrestlers will compete over the span of six sessions with six wrestling matches held simultaneously on the University Center floor. Each wrestler is expected to bring 2 - 3 supporters to Macon with approximately 2090 local hotel room nights booked with estimated group expenditures expected at $215,000.

According to Jim Guinta, Executive Director of NCWA, the NCWA is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization based in supporting future business leaders by coaching college wrestlers to exercise leadership skills inherently linked to budgeting, time management, fundraising, scheduling, conflict resolution, bargaining and negotiation, motivation, discipline and work ethic in using wrestling as a platform. Guinta promises "Middle Georgians can see some of the best wrestling of their lives by coming to watch these athletes across the US compete on Thursday, Friday and Saturday." He invites local families to spend Friday night and Saturday morning at the championships to get plugged into the excitement of the quarterfinals and semifinals rounds.
