It’s summer and now is the time to soak up the sun on your next adventure. With days only getting hotter, there are plenty of cool things to do right here in Middle Georgia. Chill out and beat the heat through July and August with this sizzling guide to a summer bucket list you can (actually) complete.
Design, Wine and Dine
Historic Macon Foundation's annual summertime sensory celebration features experts from all over with all backgrounds in the areas of design, crafted beverages, and food. According to Historic Macon, “During the festival, tour houses in Beall's Hill, visit saved Fading Five locations, and dine in historically significant places throughout Macon.” Events take place through September.
Summer Movies at Museum of Aviation
Throughout the month of July the Museum of Aviation Foundation is continuing their summer movie series at the Scott Theater Auditorium. This is a perfect afternoon for families with children. The event is free and open to the public, and concessions will be available. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the National STEM Academy and Foundation’s Operations.
Rigby’s Water World
This summer marks the grand opening of Rigby Entertainment Complex’ Water World. The Warner Robins water park is set to open mid-July. The park boasts over 40 water play features suited for guests of all ages, a maze of 12 water slides and an 800-gallon dump bucket. 2018 Season passes are now available.
Bragg Jam
July 27-28.
Celebrating 20 years, Bragg Jam is downtown Macon’s community festival and concert crawl. During the last Friday and Saturday in July more than 80 bands will step foot on 20 or more stages for a “country, rock, blues, electronic and soul-infused weekend.” Tickets are on sale now. Proceeds benefit the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and other local civic improvements. Rain or shine.
Jazz in the Courtyard at the Douglass
July 29. 7:00 P.M.
Deemed “Macon’s coolest outdoor music series” continues as the front plaza of the historic Douglass Theatre comes alive with cool jazz for warm evenings. July 29 welcomes trumpet player Ken Trimmins and friends. Concert admission is free.
Macon Film Festival
August 16- 19
Named one of the top 100 festivals by FilmFreeway. Surrounded by a rich musical and southern culture, the Macon Film Festival celebrates independent films while promoting filmmaking for entertainment, inspiration, education, and economic development. The festival features film screenings, celebrity guests, special screenings, and workshops throughout the festival weekend.
Macon Beer Festival
August 25. 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.
The Macon Beer Festival is a Pints for Prostates event. Its goal is to promote awareness and education of prostate cancer to the community through the universal language of beer. This fun beer festival showcases downtown Macon, while promoting a good cause.
Macon Burger Week
August 20 - 26
The Georgia Beef Board and Visit Macon are co-hosting Macon's first Annual Macon Burger Week. Local Downtown Macon restaurants will create unique burgers for participants to try throughout the week. More details to follow.
