Step back in time to enjoy the beauty of Ocmulgee with one of the many activities offered: - Explore the continent's only Earth Lodge and Early Mississippian temple mounds - View downtown Macon from the top of the Great Temple Mound - Immerse yourself in a wetlands environment by taking a stroll on our boardwalk - step back in time through the wilderness of the Ocmulgee River floodplain on the River Trail - Bicycle on the park road - Contemplate Georgia's "Fall Line" environment along Walnut Creek - Visit the site of the only two Civil War Battles fought in Macon - Picnic on the grounds at shade covered picnic tables - Browse the museum -The gift shop includes pottery replicas, Native American made jewelry and art, fresh clay for crafts and a great selection of books on the Native American history of Middle Georgia. Hours: Open Daily, 9 am - 5 pm. Check our ‘schedule of events’ page (http://www.nps.gov/ocmu/planyourvisit/events.htm) for monthly walks, activities and special events. Held yearly during Macon's Cherry Blossom Festival, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park hosts the Lantern Light Tours.
Grab a lantern and stroll along the luminary-lined path from the Visitor Center to the top of the Great Temple Mound.
Join interpretive talks along the way and see the Earth Lodge, Trading Post, and Great Temple Mound sites. Step back in time to to learn about the Indigenous people who once called Ocmulgee home and Ocmulgee's rich 17,000 year history.
